A message from Tom Lynch, President – Rockaway Republicans

November 4, 2004

Yesterday, if you stayed up late and awoke early for the election results, the day probably seemed like a blur until after the acceptance speech. When you woke up this morning and your face felt a little strange, it’s because you, like all of us, were smiling with a joy that comes from knowing we all contributed to the reelection of President George W. Bush.

We did things here in Rockaway, as Republicans, that hadn't been done in decades. In fact, we did more locally than the rest of greater Queens as a whole managed to do for the President. Early on, we joined the victory committee parties hosted by Marty Golden in Brooklyn.

At the same time, we organized a campaign of letters to the editor in our local paper, The Wave, supporting the President and letters printed in most of New York dailies. Our two “Parties for the President” together hosted over two hundred and fifty Bush supporters.

We heard from two candidates running for the US Senate and fellow club member Gerry Cronin who, without any support and a late start, entered the race against Congressman Weiner to ensure he didn't run unopposed.

During the Republican National Convention, Mike Bracci sailed the lower New York Harbor with a large Bush/Cheney 2004 sign donated for the sail by fellow member Paul Ohana.

Rosemary Kelleher built us a web site www.rockawayrepublicans.com giving us a very professional on-line presence.

We sent 652 signatures supporting and thanking the President for his efforts in fighting terrorism, collected between July 15th and early October, to Washington DC.

Thanks to the contributions of many of our members, we placed a final full page ad supporting the President and other GOP candidates in The Wave during the final week of the campaign.

And we all got together on Nov.2nd to watch the election returns, cheer the President on and, generally, celebrate America's election process.

Not bad for a group of neighbors and new friends after only seven months! So let’s keep that smile on our faces and pat ourselves on the back. We stood up when needed and in our small way helped reelect President George W. Bush for four more years.

Thanks to everyone!

Tom Lynch
