Rockaway Republicans

April 4, 2005
Dear
In relation to your candidacy for District Leader in the 23rd AD, we wish to ascertain your position with regard to our newly formed organization, the Rockaway Republicans Club.
As you are aware, the Rockaway Republicans formed approximately a year ago to support the president's re-election and to rebuild a strong Republican presence in our community and in the 23rd AD. Since that time, our group has voted to seek a New York State Republican Party charter and officially requested this from Queens County State Committee Chairperson, State Senator Serphin Maltese, in August of 2004. To date there has been no written response from Senator Maltese or the County organization with regard to the status of our request. We have been unofficially informed that the State Senator has appointed a special committee to review our application for a state charter as of January of this year, but this committee has not contacted us, nor has it given us any indication as to the status of our application.
We would appreciate your support in our effort to obtain a charter since Rockaway formally had a chartered club, the Gateway Republican Club, which closed its doors at the end of 2002, leaving our community without any Republican organizations. Ensuring the presence of a vibrant and active Republican club in all local communities, which have citizens desiring such a club, is essential to the health and competitiveness of our political party in the 23rd AD and throughout New York State. Since it is the role of local leaders in the Republican Party to do everything in their power to foster and ensure a vital and effective party organization, we hope you will see your way clear to making a public declaration of support for our effort to achieve restoration of a charter for our Rockaway based Republican club, either in the form of a written response to this letter or in a public statement of record, before the primary now scheduled for September 13th. The earlier such a declaration is made the better for our mutual efforts to strengthen grassroots Republicanism in our communities.
We look forward to working with you in our future shared endeavors to rebuild and restore an active Republican presence throughout the 23rd AD.
Sincerely,
George Greco, Tom Lynch
Chairman, Rockaway Republicans President, Rockaway Republicans
c. State Senator Serphin Maltese, State Committee Chair for Queens County
