The Honorable Serphin R. Maltese

Chair, Queens County Republican Party

Dear Senator Maltese:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for joining us and participating most prominently at last Tuesday evening's Downstate Grassroots Republican Summit. The gathering was, as you know, intended to bring disparate factions of our party together for dialogue and in order to think about the future. As a sure sign of Republican strength, people came to the summit from many parts of New York State as well as from as far south as Philadelphia to convene and discuss the state of the Republican Party here in New York.

Politics, as you know better than most, is discourse, compromise and the propagation of ideas. We believe we witnessed all three on the evening of January 11th when we gathered for the summit. From this meeting we hope to see a re-birth of Republican ideals and energy throughout our state.

There was much discussion among us after the program about some of the specific questions posed to you. We want to say, at once, that we did not in any way premeditate or intend an ambush or public confrontation with you. We were only seeking to bring to your attention the present uneasiness and uncertainty of the Rockaway Republicans. We do not know where our newly formed group stands in Queens County, despite the fact that we have been in existence for ten months and have already accomplished a great deal for the president and our party. Clearly, we want to continue to harness our energy and our best intentions to further Republican interests here on the Peninsula, and for this we need your direction and support.

As you know, roughly five months ago we sent you an official letter requesting a charter for our newly formed club and included within it various proposals and/or alternatives that would enable us to be helpful to the larger Queens County organization. Unfortunately, we have not yet received a response from your office. Senator Maltese we ask that you provide us guidance and support as we press forward to rebuild the Republican presence in our own community, a goal I'm sure we both share. An early and favorable response to our request for chartering our club would be most helpful in this regard.

Sincerely,

George Greco - Chair, Rockaway Republicans

Tom Lynch - President, Rockaway Republicans
